Ferry, charter, cruise or excursion? Know the difference

Search results for island travel can mix very different sea journeys. A local excursion, private charter, cruise call and scheduled passenger ferry are not interchangeable. Before considering any offer, identify exactly where it goes, who operates it and whether it permits the journey you need. A photograph of a boat is not evidence of a public transport connection.

Scheduled passenger ferry

For planning purposes, a ferry service should be supported by current evidence from an identifiable operator for a specific passenger route. You would need to verify operating dates and the actual travel conditions with that operator. At the 5 November 2026 review, the Curaçao Tourist Board says there are no ferries between the ABC islands. This website therefore provides no ferry timetable, fare or ticket-sales link.

Four different boat products: local excursion, private charter, cruise itinerary and scheduled ferry
Different boat journeys are not interchangeable. Check the destination, passenger terms and operating evidence.

Private charter

A charter is an individually arranged service, not proof of a recurring public route. The tourist-board FAQ mentions private boat charter as a different possibility. That does not establish a provider, voyage approval, current availability or suitability for your circumstances. We have not verified a charter offer for sale here. Avoid treating that general possibility as a confirmed fallback for a missed flight.

If independently investigating a charter, ask the provider about the precise voyage, authorized passenger operation, landing and border arrangements, weather decisions and cancellation terms. Do not assume a local excursion licence covers a different international journey. Get your questions answered by the provider and relevant authorities, not by extrapolating from a travel blog.

Cruise itinerary

A ship calling at more than one ABC island does not automatically sell or permit a one-way transfer between them. Check the carrier’s actual itinerary and passenger conditions. A port-call calendar concerns ship movements; it is not in itself a passenger-ferry schedule. Port authorities are valuable infrastructure sources, but their presence on a source list does not imply endorsement of a transport product.

Local water taxi or nearby-islet excursion

Names such as Klein Curaçao and Klein Bonaire refer to different destinations from the main-island crossings readers may be looking for. Check the complete destination and return point before booking anything. A day trip returning to its departure island does not solve transport between Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. Nor should its price or duration be reused to estimate a proposed ferry.

Four checks before relying on a boat journey

Identify the exact departure and arrival locations. Establish whether the trip is a return excursion, private voyage or public point-to-point service. Read the current operator conditions for the dates you need. Finally, confirm that entry and onward-travel arrangements match your own situation. If any of those points is unclear, the journey is not yet a sound foundation for the itinerary.

The proposed-route explanation keeps concepts visibly separate from operations. For journeys you can investigate now, use the current alternative sources. This is independent guidance, not a recommendation of an unverified sea operator.
